Karim Wade, son of former Senegalese president, Abdoulaye Wade, sentenced to 6 years in prison in March last year for money laundering could soon be free.
During an interview with the media, Senegalese president Macky Sall, on Thursday hinted of Wade’s possible release, saying that it might even happen before the end of the year, “depending on the judicial process.”
The president’s remarks follow the first political dialogue in the country which started on May 28.
The talks included civil society, trade unions and the Senegalese Democratic Party headed by Abdoulaye Wade, who’s senior members are also incarcerated for corruption.
Several opposition members at the start of the dialogue, who aimed at finding consensus on implementation of constitutional reforms, did not hesitate to request for presidential pardon for all political prisoners.
